The workshop, titled Autism Diagnosis in Low Resource Settings: Challenges and Opportunities to Enhance Research and Services Worldwide, looked to form a group of professionals who can lead the effort for globally-available, culturally relevant, and inexpensive tools people can use to diagnose children at an early age. Sponsored by Autism Speaks, Johns Hopkins, International Society for Autism Research, and the World Health Organization, the workshop was held at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, MD.
The Clinical Autism Diagnostic Scale is a new tool developed by Dr. Layton, Dr. Hao, and Dr. Zou to diagnose children with Autism at an early age. The China Women’s Development Foundation – whose Administrator, Dr. Guo Hailiang, was also in attendance at the workshop – is paying for the autism scale and distributing it free throughout China.
