What is the Triangle Down Syndrome Network?

You may have read some of Dr. Layton’s Ask the Expert articles we have featured on the ELF Talk section of our website. These articles, such as Ask the Expert: Play and Learning and Ask the Expert: Executive Function and Children with Down Syndrome were originally published in the Triangle Down Syndrome Network’s newsletter. If you were wondering, “What is the Triangle Down Syndrome Network?” then wonder no more . . .
The Triangle Down Syndrome Network, or TDSN, is an organization that works to help connect and support the families of individuals with Down syndrome. Located in Central North Carolina, TDSN serves the communities of Wake, Durham, Orange, and surrounding counties. It acts as a supportive network of families and organizations who are brought together to better the lives and help educate the families who care for individuals with Down syndrome.
Proud parent of a daughter with Down syndrome, Jane Ball put it best in a recent interview when she said:

I encourage anyone . . . who’s just had a child [with Down syndrome], or just moved to the area, to please get in contact with [the Triangle Down Syndrome Network]. They are a great support network, great for awareness, they do great things for families in need, and offer a lot of services that you can’t get elsewhere.

Buddy Walk

In addition to acting as a support group for families of individiuals with Down syndrome, TDSN also organizes and promotes many events in the community. Most notable is their annual Buddy Walk (click here to see some of Talk and Total’s photos from a previous Buddy Walk). Buddy Walk is TDSN’s largest fundraiser, and features music, performances, and many fun activities. It acts as the one time each year all of the TDSN families can get together, make new friends, and just have a good time – all while helping to raise money for TDSN and the future families of TDSN.

Contact TDSN

One of the easiest things to do is join the email support group. The TDSN website has a handy email signup form that makes it easy to do so. You can also follow TDSN on their Facebook page, where you can stay up-to-date with all of their latest news and events, as well as discover other things related to Down syndrome.

you can set up your page. Go to http://triangledownsyndrome.org/stepup/step-up-teams/register-your-team-name/ to do so. During the setup process, you will chooose from a team name already registered with TDSN so this needs to be done first.
